They work with stakeholders to ensure the board is aware of their interest, and are able to pursue changes in corporate behaviour and make a positive impact.

According to McKinsey’s 2021 global study of more than 800 directors, the best boards consist of non-executive directors (NEDs) with expertise and senior executives who have an intimate understanding of the business. They have a set of policies and a framework to guide their decisions and are focused on improving effectiveness of the board.
